Ukumbi ry is an independent, non-profit, non-governmental organization whose purpose is to promote architecture and good environmental design both in Finland and internationally. The association focuses particularly on improving the position of disadvantaged communities and directing design services to the least privileged segments of the population.

The purpose of the association is to:

  • promote environmentally conscious, culturally and ecologically sustainable building design

  • promote the quality and appreciation of architecture and urban planning in domestic and international contexts

  • bring together people interested in architecture

The association focuses especially on population groups whose position within their own society is weak.

To fulfill its purpose, the association:

  • makes initiatives that promote the arts and architecture

  • organizes exhibitions and cultural events

  • plans and organizes training and educational activities

  • engages in communication and publishing activities

  • supports, mainly through planning and design services, the implementation of public-benefit construction projects aligned with its purpose

  • cooperates with other organizations in the field

  • acts in other similar ways to achieve its objectives.
